Nineteen year old Misty Ann James of Pelzer, South Carolina was crowned the 2001 National Watermelon Queen during the National Watermelon Association's Convention in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Misty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky James of Pelzer, South Carolina. She will be a junior attending the University of South Carolina majoring in Criminal Justice.
As National Watermelon Queen, Misty will travel throughout the United States and Canada, promoting the watermelon industry and making guest appearances. She will give tips on the selection of watermelon in addition to discussing the nutritional and economic value of the product.
Misty will hold the national title for one year. (February 2001-2002)
The National Watermelon Association has members in 30 states and promotes the best interest of the industry from production to consumption.
