NWA Crowns New National Watermelon Queen
The National Watermelon Association crowned their 2005 National Watermelon
Queen at their recent national convention in Orlando, Florida.
Twenty-one year old Stephanie Noel Duda of Mission, Texas was awarded
the crown, title and obligations following a multi-day competition with
seven other State Association’s Watermelon Queens.
Stephanie was the Texas/Oklahoma Association Watermelon Queen in 2004.
Her reign as National Watermelon Queen begins immediately and will be
completed when the NWA meets in Lake Tahoe next February for their annual
convention.
Stephanie is the daughter of Darrell and Barbara Duda of Mission, Texas.
She is a student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Government
and Communications.
“It is a true joy to do a job in which I promote a product I take
pride in and represent people whom I respect and call friends”,
says Stephanie.
As National Watermelon Queen, Stephanie will travel extensively throughout
the United States, promoting the watermelon industry. She will give tips
on the selection of watermelon in addition to discussing the nutritional
and economic value of the product. She will serve as a public relations
spokesperson for the industry to support the NWA Team’s vision and
programs throughout her reign.
The National Watermelon Association has been in existence since 1914,
and has their corporate offices in Plant City, Florida. The purpose of
the Association is to promote the best interests of the Watermelon Industry
from production to consumption by constantly seeking improvements in the
growing, grading, handling, transportation, distribution and sale of watermelon.
